New outlets and new designs

I have been really busy making for a few new outlets and am finally catching up with myself
McNutts- Downings Co Donegal is a lovely new craft shop, selling tweed and beautiful crafts, it also has a tearoom, always a bonus.

They have unframed paintings , brooches, cards and bags

Limehouse Crafts and Gifts- Newry N Ireland

Is opening in July and has a series of unframed paintings, bags with matching scarves.
Mourne Craft Gallery - Letterkenny
Was officially opened this week and Frances has a range of bags with scarves, brooches and cards.

Ramelton Country Market - Ramelton Town Hall, 11am-12.30pm

Has a collection of work including cards, unframed paintings, brooches and NEW lampshades, where you can also order your own custom made lampshades to be collected for at the market.

I am currently getting the range ready for the Rathmullan Heritage Centre, which will be available from the first weekend in July.

A new pop up shop will be opening on the 8th July 2011, in Ardara to go alongside our Snapshots exhibition.
Open until 20th August, all welcome.

I have been a very busy girl and have opened an collective exhibition "Snapshots" in `the Leitrim Design House , they are also stocking a large range of my bags, scarves and bits and bobs in the shop. Plus a range of lampshades, so if you are in the area take a look.
I also delivered a range of bags, scarves and hairbands to An Clachan , Gweedore, Co Donegal if you want to take a look.

Exhibition on the wall at last

After many hours of blood, sweat and throwing silk paint around 40 paintings are on the walls in the Workhouse in Dunfanaghy, they are mainly flora and fuana but a couple of abstracts.

So if you are passing, it is on until the 31st May.
It looked great on the opening but as there is a lot of tourist trade, I don't know how it will look in a few weeks.

Contemporary Reflection Exhibition

I am one of the guest makers in the new textile exhibition which opened on the 1st -30th April in the Leitrim Design House www.intoleitrim.com.
I have made two of my new designs for bags with matching scarves and lampshades and a few bits and pieces.

I will also be making a collection of bags, scarves and hairbands for An Clachan, Gweedore, Co Donegal available in May. www.anclachan.ie

Pick and Mix a solo exhibition of paintings by Karen O'Kane

This is the 2nd year of exhibiting in the Workhouse in Dunfanaghy, Co Donegal .

This exhibition has a variety of themes and styles all painted on silk, hence the title.

The exhibition opens on the 19th April it will run until the 31st May 2011.

Well it is a wintery spring here in Donegal, my first open studio was met by lots of snow.
Have been working very hard when not in the garden or the polytunnel. Even spent Paddies day in the studio.
Have a new retail outlet in Letterkenny, Mourne Antiques, The Port Road. Frances Spears has been around Ireland to collect together the work of different makers. She has Emer O'Sullivan, Naomi Fluery and myself from Donegal.
Good luck Frances, it will be nice to have somewhere local to get nice gifts for people.

As my gallery is so small in the cottage it is hard to take photos but here goes..

These are the last few hairbands I had better get sewing

Just a selection of the bags I have.
I have 40 currently in stock and Frances in Mourne Antiques has a dozen on display, with matching scarves and some hairbands.

I will be supplying An Clachan in Gweedore with bags, scarves and hairbands in the summer.

Giving you a chance to look at our work and listen to Anna Keyes and marina Hamilton who will be addressing the audience.

Lampshades Lampshades

After the success of the silk shades I have finally got my post binge bum into the studio and made this. Others which will be for sale are to follow

This one is going to take pride of place in the gallery at my studio.

The silk is stretched and then painted, fixed and then made into a lampshades, which is a bit tricky but seems to be worth it.
They can come in all colours and sizes...

Donegal in December

I was sorting through the photos of Christmas this evening and with talk of snow on the way (again) I'm reminded of being dragged out a ditch twice on the school run and it doesn't fill me with confidence that the snow tyres still haven't arrived in the garage yet. I'm hoping that this won't be the view that greets everyone when the arrive for the first Craft in the Cottage Sunday coming up in March.
